Maestros tomaron vuelo por cuarto año consecutivo este sábado pasado, October 1st. Aula al cielo dieron profesores la oportunidad de ir a través de entrenamiento de la escuela de tierra y tomar una 30 minute flight with an instructor. The teachers also received the opportunity to receive service points for the first time this year.

Richele Floyd, the ACE Education Director is proud to offer the experience to teachers.

“The Aerospace Center for Excellence is proud to host outstanding educators from Central Florida during Classroom to the Sky,” Floyd says. “Here they will learn valuable information to take back and inspire their students. ACE is proud to host Classroom to the Sky on the SUN ‘n FUN Expo Campus. Not only does this event serve as an ‘extension of the teacher’s classroom,’ but they have the opportunity to earn ‘in-service’ points towards their professional development and career goals. Nowhere else in the United States will you find this commitment towards education as you do at ACE on the SUN ‘n FUN Expo Campus.”

Teachers valued the experience as well. Cynthia Alley, Teacher of the Year at Mulberry Middle School, describes the event as “amazing.”

“To fly and see Lakeland from above was really amazing,” Alley began. “It was a great experience, everything was great.”

40 Teachers attended the sold out event from a variety of schools in the Central Florida area. Most came from the Tampa Bay area and got to experience Lakeland from a different view.

Evette Rivera, teacher at Channelside Academy in Tampa, described the experience as phenomenal and life changing.

“I learned so much from Dave [Fuller, her flight instructor during the flight training],” Rivera began. “He taught me everything that happens on the controls before we took off, and while we were in the air, he taught me everything and let go of the wheel [yoke]. It was a life changing experience.”

This seminar ran from 8 in the morning until after 12 in the afternoon. The event has a valued price of $300, but teachers took part in all of the activities for $20.

ACE and SUN ‘n FUN would like to thank our valued partners for the event and we couldn’t have done it without you. To all of our volunteer pilots, we thank you. We also thank, the Florida Aviation Network, Lakeland Linder Airport, EAA 454, Aero-Club de Lakeland, and Polk State College. Más de todo, we would like to thank the teachers for participating in the fourth annual Classroom to the Sky event.
